Review of Chris Ploof Studio, Pawtucket , Rhode Island
Chris Ploof creates original wedding bands and custom jewelry that truly are wearable art. The Chris Ploof Studio is located in Rhode Island and their collection is available through fine galleries across the country and on their web site.
Chris’ designs feature both the finest precious metals and also unique and difficult to work materials such as meteorite iron and damascus stainless steel. Chris is most well known for his stunning Mokume Gane jewelry.
“Mokume gane is an ancient Japanese technique that bonds many layers of precious metals into a single piece that is then worked into beautiful patterns,” Chris explained.
Using metals of different colors creates stunning mokume patterns unlike anything else. While this technique was originally used to create decorative samurai swords, today’s mokume artisans create remarkable jewelry.
Chris loves to incorporate palladium in his designs because of the precious metal’s natural bright white state and durability.
“Palladium is such a wonderful precious metal to incorporate into rings,” Chris said. “It’s so naturally beautiful and tough enough to stand up to the wear that everyday rings such as wedding rings face.”
That’s a good thing, because palladium rings as beautiful as those created by the Chris Ploof Studio should be around for a very long time.
